Dennis, please read what you write before you press submit. If you are earning $20,000 - $40,000 a year in reewtirement benefits and are under the age of 65, then you are probably not a low income earner. So a married couple bringing in $80,000 of retirement benefits will pay approximately $1,700 in tax on that income in 2012. I do not think that is unfair, oh yeah, I forgot we are suppose to praise the ground that retired teacher walk on and how dare we tax them. Most retired teachers i know arte bringing in over $100,000 in retirement income and we wonder why are state is broke or broken!!!

I take it Robb, ( speaking of people whining ) you are a small business owner. I don't believe Gregg was in the wrong either. Small business might have it rough, but did you ever think how bad it is for low income earners or seniors. Some day you too will be a senior, but I'm sure that if you are successful with your business , you won't feel the pinch that the majority of the seniors, and low income families face. Not everybody worked for the Big Three, and not all are teachers. Hurray for the people that do (and did ) work for there. It's kinda funny how sh_ _ rolls down hill, maybe you should think about that when you start pointing the finger.

Well Greg....it is economic ignorance like yours that led our state to the fiscal shape it is in now. There are now only 2 other states in the USA that have a state income tax that allow you to exempt it from state tax. Michigan used to be one of three. And as fate would have it our economy is the worst in the country. He just saved 100,000 small businesses from being taxed twice on the same dollar (once on their personal returns and once on their business returns). That leaves more money in the business to do things like employ more people or reinvest in their companies by purchasing capital goods, etc. People like you kill me. You whine and complain about the condition of our state, the roads, the education system, etc. but you don't want to do your part to help fix the problem. Let me guess you are either a retired teacher or GM worker correct?? You should really learn more about what you are speaking before posting.

I will simply move to Florida where I won't have to pay state income tax on my pension.

That's why they call him gateway Snyder. He's a gateway out of the state.
